THE US election is getting grubbier by the hour and Hillary Clinton might regret her daughter Chelsea attacking Donald Trump.

After the first US presidential debate, Republican Party nominee Donald Trump claimed he was “holding back” because he did not want to embarrass the daughter of his rival, Democaratic candidate Hillary Clinton, who attended the debate in New York City.

Trump’s advisers told the media that the 70-year-old — reported by Forbes to have a net worth of $3.7 billion — decided against discussing the sexual ‘transgressions’ of Hillary’s husband, the former US President Bill Clinton, who served as the 42nd Presdient of the US from 1993 to 2001.

“I didn’t want to do it with Chelsea … I didn’t want to say what I was going to say with Chelsea in the room,” Trump told ABC News in the US.

Chelsea, the 36-year-old only child of Bill and Hillary, responded to Trump’s statement in an interview with Cosmopolitan magazine.

“It’s a distraction from his inability to talk about what’s actually at stake in this election and to offer concrete, comprehensive proposals about the economy, or our public school system, or debt-free college, or keeping our country safe and Americans safe here at home and around the world. …

“And candidly, I don’t remember a time in my life when my parents and my family weren’t being attacked, and so it just sort of seems to be in that tradition, unfortunately. And what I find most troubling by far are Trump’s — and we talked about this when you interviewed me the night before the Iowa caucus — are Trump’s continued, relentless attacks on whole swathes of our country and even our global community: women, Muslims, Americans with disabilities, a Gold Star family. I mean, that, to me, is far more troubling than whatever his most recent screed against my mom or my family [is].”

Fairly sensible comments, to be fair, but those words caused Juanita Broaddrick — who in 1999 famously accused Bill Clinton of raping her in April 19789 — to respond to her on Twitter with six statements.
