A 10-MONTH-OLD baby girl has died after suffering head injuries in a brutal sexual assault by her mum’s boyfriend, police say.

Emmaleigh Barringer, of Charleston, West Virginia, was found by her mother bleeding in the basement of the home, The Sun reports.

Despite staying alive on life support for several days, she died after being declared brain dead and the machines were switched off.

“I’ve been here 25 years, and we’ve never encountered something of this nature. I don’t know if we’ve had anything like this near here,” Jackson County sheriff Tony Boggs said.

Police say her mum Amanda Adkins woke up Monday morning about 5am to discover her badly battered daughter on the basement floor.

She was bleeding and clothes and blankets covered in blood were found nearby, the Charleston-Gazette-Mail reported.

Sheriff Boggs said sexual assault charges against Amanda’s new boyfriend, Benjamin Ryan Taylor, 32, would be upgraded to murder.

Deputies claimed he was seen trying to “vigorously” wipe something off his groin area when he was handcuffed.

Amanda’s cousin Danielle Adkins said Taylor had swept her cousin off her feet after she moved from Baltimore, hoping for a safer environment for her children.

“You literally would have thought he was a Prince Charming, she was so lit up inside,” she told WSAZ.

“He wanted to do things with her and he hung out with the kids.

“The only way justice is going to be served is if he feels every ounce of pain that he caused her too.

“It wasn’t enough that he took her innocence, he had to take her life too.”
