Patriots, Dolphins face new challenges in week ahead

New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo scrambles against the Buffalo Bills in the second half of an NFL football game Sunday Dec. 28 2014 in Foxborough Mass

MassLive tweeted after the game: “Told that x-rays came back negative on Jimmy Garoppolo”.

He also completed 18/27 passes for a total of 234 yards in less than two quarters, almost as many as he threw in Arizona during week one. The other two teams in the division played each other.

Minus Brady, Rob Gronkowski – who did not play against the Dolphins because of the hamstring injury that has been troubling him since August – and a pair of injured offensive linemen, the NFL’s most competitive franchise barely missed a beat.

The injury to Jimmy Garoppolo couldn’t have come at a worse time considering regular starter Tom Brady is expected to return from his suspension soon. Some have suggested they could look to wide receiver Julian Edelman, who played quarterback in college and has even thrown passes in Patriots’ trick plays. I hope he’s OK.

As it stands now, rookie Jacoby Brissett is the only healthy quarterback on the roster, but Garoppolo’s status is still up in the air.

The injury occurred on a five yard run with about three minutes left in the third quarter and the Vikings up 10-7.

It’s Jacoby Brissett’s tryout now. “So you really feel for the guy”. “It was just [about] going out there and being ready from the start”. But just when it looked like New England was headed to a blowout, Garoppolo was being helped off the field.

Scoring his first National Football League touchdown, rookie running back Kenyan Drake – who missed nearly all of the preseason – scored on a seven-yard run late in the fourth quarter to bring Miami within one possession.

But the second half was a different story for the Patriots, particularly their defense, as the Dolphins gained steam under the leadership of Ryan Tannehill and athleticism of wide receiver DeVante Parker.

McDaniels said that the team evaluates every player and comes up with a plan heading into each game, and that “our formula won’t change”. We can’t be a team that (says), ‘We nearly won. The offensive line played unbelievable, they’re going to continue to do that, I’m sure.

During the weekend, the Patriots pulled an impressive win over the Dolphins after closing the match with a score of 31-24.

Blount also made an incredible play when he hurdled a defender for the second game in a row – this time Miami’s Byron Maxwell. It was the second week in a row he eclipsed 100 passing yards in the first quarter of a game.

“We prepared in this week for it to go down to the wire”, Edelman said. It was not all good news for Denver, as star defensive end DeMarcus Ware fractured his forearm in the victory.

He has taken the team to touchdowns on his first two opening drives.

Coach Bill Belichick’s philosophy on the importance of quarterbacks was summed up a few years ago when he said, “In our organization, I don’t think we would put together a team the way Indianapolis did it when they lost [Peyton] Manning and they go [2-14 in 2011]. They’re out there tying to make plays, trying to get better as players and it gets us all better”. Elam is from the same area as Brissett, and Parcells, who lives in Jupiter, Fla., struck up a friendship with the young man while he was just a teenager at Dwyer High School.
