No. 10 Nebraska hangs on for 27-22 victory at Indiana

ABC to televise Indiana's homecoming game vs. Nebraska

A 72-yard touchdown pass from (what appeared to be) a somewhat hobbled Tommy Armstrong to Stanley Morgan Jr. stretched the lead again, but in only 91 seconds, in responded with seven points of its own. OR is 2-4, having lost their last four games and just got 70 points put on “em by Washington”.

Nebraska completely controlled the first quarter on both sides of the ball. The Cornhuskers defeated Fresno State, Wyoming and OR in non-conference play. Unfortunately for Nebraska, that position group hasn’t been at full strength all season. Think about this: IN started season by playing Louisiana State on the road (loss), Washington at home (win) and Nebraska at home (loss).

Outside of the two interceptions Lagow was effective, as was junior quarterback Zander Diamont, who provided a change of pace, threw for 49 yards and ran for 31 more in his first action of the season.

The loss of Dan Feeney and Dimitri Camiel has clearly created some problems. Camiel recently had back surgery, and Feeney has been out with a concussion.

The play was reviewed, and the call on the field was upheld. Indiana, after all, is just 3-3 on the season and one of those losses is to Wake Forest. This year he has 491 yards in IU’s first five games. The game is will also be airing as a live stream online. The Nebraska defense has been solid this year as well. That game featured coaches Tom Osborne and Lee Corso and a four-touchdown performance from Huskers star I.M Hipp. He said that before each game he tells his coach what his potential field goal range might be.

No team will always have a ideal game. Both Aaron Williams and Chris Jones had their men blanketed on Indiana’s opening drive, forcing a turnover on downs. When Scales is flying around to the ball, Indiana’s defense can be formidable. The 10th-ranked Cornhuskers didn’t do much on offense outside of Armstrong hitting Stanley Morgan Jr. for a 72-yard touchdown pass with 9:57 left to play. Nebraska is 53 percent on third-down and 63 percent on fourth-down opportunities on the season. Granted, Armstrong was running for his life most of the day, which explains the disjointed nature of Nebraska’s game.

They’ll have to play better on offense than they did Saturday to probably have a chance to win. Maybe. At least until the two meet again, that is. When teams don’t need to stack the box to stop the run, it makes it more hard for receivers to find room. Now QB Richard Lagow and the Hoosiers look to win at home today. IU has countered by calling a bunch of run-pass plays, with many winding up as passes. His only miss coming on a 56-yard attempt in the first half against IL. Six plays and 64 yards later, Newby found paydirt from four yards out to give the Big Red a 10-0 lead with 4:47 left.

IN has winning records against only two current Big Ten members (Nebraska and Maryland).

As No. 10 Nebraska plays its sixth game of the year, the Huskers control their own destiny in the Big Ten.

When you schedule OR a handful of years out, that looks like quite the marquee matchup.

Nebraska was a bowl team a season ago, but only because there were not enough teams with records of.500 or better to fill all of the available bowl slots. That also happened in 1945. IN was on the brink of a potentially program-changing victory against 10th-ranked Nebraska. The Hoosiers needed 30 carries for 88 rushing yards.
