California police in dramatic pursuit

The truck in hot pursuit in California.

A DRIVER in a reportedly stolen semi-truck that carries hazardous material led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase for three hours across the Inland Empire.

The incident started at around 10.30am local time in Apple Valley after the driver failed to yield, according to San Bernardinio County sheriffs officials.

Just before 6.40am (AEST) as the chase entered the third hour the driver gave up and pulled into a parking space where he was arrested by police.

The driver, who appeared to be alone in the cab of the truck, reportedly told police that he was not armed and that he didn’t want to go back to jail.

The company name on the truck reads “ACT Enviro,” a company that transports hazardous material, ABC 13 reports.

The company told Eyewitness News that it was not aware of the pursuit.
